Tamil school student Shivendra wins chess tournament

A STUDENT from SJK (T) Kajang beat participants from 10 countries to emerge as champion in a chess tournament organised by the Russian Embassy’s Centre of Science and Culture in Kuala Lumpur in cooperation with the Malaysian Chess Federation as reported by tamil daily Makkal Osai.
The tournament, which saw players from other countries including Russia, Australia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, was organised in conjunction with Embassy Day.
Shivendra, won the gold medal at the tournament on Feb 16.
Headmaster John Posko said the win was a great boost for both the school and the local Indian community.
The boy received a certificate and a trophy for his win from Russian Ambassador Valery Yermolov.
About 80 people (both adults and children), including Russian Embassy and Trade Representative Office staff, diplomats from other Embassies in Kuala Lumpur, Russian compatriots and Malaysian chess players, participated in the tournament. The refereeing was conducted by professional arbiters from the Malaysian Chess Federation.
