Tamil School Students Win Gold Medal For Their Invention!

Most of us would discard orange peel and coconut shell as soon as we are done with their produce, but not three Tamil school pupils from Penang.
The Year Six students of SJK (T) Ladang Prye in George Town won their first international gold medal at the International Science and Invention Fair (ISIF) being held in Bali, Indonesia, from June 21 to 26, with their invention with the disposables.
They made water filters, teeth whitener and odour remover sachets using disposed mandarin orange peel and coconut shell.
According to one of the pupils, Harrish Raj Shanker, it took him and three of his teammates – Harchana Changaiah, Siti Zumaidah Abdul Rahman and Theva Tharsini Seekan, a month to come up with the projects.
He said the teachers, and even the school cleaners, helped them out in the projects, which were meant to reduce environmental waste and encourage the preactise of reduce, reuse, and recycle.
The pupil’s science teacher said the teeth whitener and odour remover sachet projects won gold at the third edition of the Sirim Invention and Technology Expo (Si2TE), held in Kedah, last April.
